It is summertime. Mowing the lawn is as much of a weekly ritual this time of the year as having a barbecue on Sunday afternoon. Men take pride in their lawns, and the ubiquitous sound of lawn mowers in July and August are a testament to how obsessive certain men become about maintaining a perfectly manicured lawn. However, just because you mow the lawn once a week does not mean that you are mowing it correctly. There are certain tips to maintaining a beautifully coiffed lawn.

In order to achieve a full, healthy lawn it is important to mow it correctly. Think of it like cutting hair; it order for the turf to come back full and dense it is imperative to only cut a little off the crown. The height at which you set the mower is the key. Never cut the lawn too short. This reduces the chlorophyll in the grass and dries out the soil. It is suggested that a higher mover height be used in hot weather; in the cooler weather, use a lower mower height. Aerating and overseeding the lawn will also make it dense and thick. Weed control and proper watering is also important.

We all want green luscious lawns. We all love to have full, beautiful flowers beds, and productive gardens. We have to have water to achieve these goals. What we need to understand is that water is not endless. Sometimes we have to conserve water, more in some places than others, but we all need to do it.

You might not need as much water as you think either. Research locally to find out exactly how much water is recommended to get that great lawn, flower bed, and gardens. Once you find out the minimal amount needed it will be easy to set your water timer to make those things possible.

When you have all that figured out great, but you also need to keep the climate and season in mind. In cooler temperatures/seasons you will not need as much water. Summer will obviously require more water. Don’t water in the heat of the day either. Set you timer for early in the morning or late evening. If it is raining turn off your water. Let nature take care of the watering on those days.

Water is a great natural resource and we all need to do our part to conserve it.

Purchasing a watch can be an important event. Often making the right selection will depend heavily on your lifestyle, profession and daily schedule. If you work with the public or are in a high visibility position such as sales and/or marketing, sometimes a can be tool for attracting clients. In fact, one of the things that people look at on job interviews is your watch. It leaves a lasting impression, so when making your selection you want to make a wise choice. The whole story can be found at http://www.digitaltrends.com/lifestyle/cadence-4-bit-watch-has-binary-hour-markers-ups-your-geek-quotient-ten-fold/ I usually like to go for something that is a classic look. It can be simple, inexpensive and reliable while looking like a piece of jewelry. If I am on a tight budget, I will find a durable waterproof inexpensive stainless steel piece that matches a bracelet or looks like one. I have a knack for finding watches that have a kind of universal look, they can be worn with a suite, t- shirt or dress shirt and still look great. Department stores and superstores are the best places to find the inexpensive line of designer watches. These are purposely designed to fit all of the above listed requirements and still adhere to a budget. Often you can catch a sale and buy two, a sporty watch and a classic one.

You have a lovely green lawn that you take care of almost obsessively. It is lush and green and excellent for those outdoor parties when it is hot outside. After calling several friends you have your first party, and all goes well so you have another in the following weeks… Soon you are a regular on the outdoor fun circuit and after several weeks you notice your lovely lawn is not so lovely any more. It is getting flat and brownish in spots even though you are regularly watering and feeding it the proper lawn food.

There are always lots of people dropping by during your outdoor gatherings, and some of them have dogs they bring along with them, and you have your own dogs that run free when people are outside, after all they get to be social too! This means they are most likely urinating on the grass, and in time the grass turns yellow from the urine. The only way around this is to keep the pets off the grass you are partying on as your pet has his own place to “go” the other dogs can go in his pen too and they can socialize there instead of ruining the grass. If you do this, and rotate the places you have your gatherings on your lawn should stay lush and green.

Installing a drip irrigation system is not difficult nor does it have to cost a lot of money.

First, gather all the supplies at the local home improvement store. You will need a hose bib manifold, three pressure reducers, three automatic valves with a timer, and drip tubing.

Second, screw the hose bib manifold onto the hose faucet outside your home. The hose bip manifold will split the water that comes out of the hose faucet, effectively turning it into four different faucets.

Third, screw a pressure reducer onto three of the four new faucets that you just created. The pressure reducers will reduce the water pressure coming out of those three faucets to an appropriate level for a drip irrigation system. The Fourth faucet without a pressure reducer will be used for your hose.

Fourth, Screw the automatic valves to each of the three pressure reducers and attach them to the timer. The timer can then be set to turn on and off each of the three valves on specific days and times.

Fifth, attach the tubing to the three valves and run it to where your lawn or garden needs water. The tubing can be simply placed on the ground under thick plant cover or it can be placed underneath mulch to hid it from view.

Shopping for fertilizer can be a little confusing. Typical fertilizer packaging consists of three numbers on the front of the bag. Each of those numbers is significant, and it is important a consumer understands the meaning behind the numbers before purchasing fertilizer. Before purchasing fertilizer, do a soil test to determine what nutrients the soil needs. Over fertilizing can essentially destroy a garden or lawn.

The first number represents nitrogen content. Nitrogen is a powerful and necessary fertilizer that all plants and lawns need. However, too much nitrogen can burn the leaves and potentially kill off a lawn. A 10-pound bag of fertilizer with the first number 20, indicates 20 percent of the 20 pounds is nitrogen or approximately 2 pounds of the bag.Confused? Here ‘s a little help .

Phosphorous is the second number. Phosphorous is needed to help plants and lawns have healthy roots. Plants lacking in phosphorous will likely be small and not produce much fruit. Roots can only absorb small doses of phosphorous.

The last number indicates potassium or potash. This is an essential nutrient to lawns and gardens. The potassium strengthens the plants and helps them withstand drought periods. Fruits and vegetable size is typically larger when the soil is rich in potassium.
