It is summertime. Mowing the lawn is as much of a weekly ritual this time of the year as having a barbecue on Sunday afternoon. Men take pride in their lawns, and the ubiquitous sound of lawn mowers in July and August are a testament to how obsessive certain men become about maintaining a perfectly manicured lawn. However, just because you mow the lawn once a week does not mean that you are mowing it correctly. There are certain tips to maintaining a beautifully coiffed lawn.
In order to achieve a full, healthy lawn it is important to mow it correctly. Think of it like cutting hair; it order for the turf to come back full and dense it is imperative to only cut a little off the crown. The height at which you set the mower is the key. Never cut the lawn too short. This reduces the chlorophyll in the grass and dries out the soil. It is suggested that a higher mover height be used in hot weather; in the cooler weather, use a lower mower height. Aerating and overseeding the lawn will also make it dense and thick. Weed control and proper watering is also important.
